Now Open: Catalyst to Independence Award

January 6, 2023

We are excited to announce that the second cycle of the Catalyst to Independence Award is NOW OPEN! This unique research award program targets a critical window in scientific training and career development by supporting exceptional early career scientists during the final years of a mentored postdoctoral research position through the transition to an independent faculty position.

The Catalyst Award is intended to support investigators pursuing research with relevance to single ventricle heart disease, including topic areas like genetics, tissue engineering, computational modeling, pre- and neonatal health, and basic cardiovascular development studies that aim to understand normal heart development and regeneration. In addition to providing generous research support of up to $1.2M over 6 years, this program utilizes a multi-pronged approach to equip investigators with the skills, tools, and resources critical to their success leaders of outstanding independent research programs.

“Novel programs like [the Catalyst to Independence Award] will be a gamechanger for the investigator, the field, and ultimately the patients and families affected by single ventricle heart disease.” – from ‘Paying it forward: bringing innovation to academic funding’ feature in ecrLife

This program is structured to put the investigator first, providing a bridge for passionate, promising scientists to not only stay in the single ventricle field, but to create a foundation for robust personal and professional success in the single ventricle research space.

Letters of intent for the Catalyst to Independence Award are due by March 16, 2023.
