Who Fits

Proposed projects must be led by principal investigator(s) who hold doctoral degrees (e.g. PhD, MD, PsyD, or equivalent doctorates). Proposals are accepted for two program tracks: Independent Investigator and Career Development.

Independent Investigator Track: Eligible investigators include independent investigators of all levels (including those with Instructor or Assistant Professor status). Collaborative proposals (e.g., includes multiple lead investigators who make significant contributions) are encouraged. One principal investigator must be selected as the primary contact, with all other lead investigators listed as co-investigators. Up to five (5) co-investigators may be added to each project, and they must meet the same eligibility requirements as the principal investigator.

Career Development Track: Eligible investigators include postdoctoral fellows or equivalents holding a mentored position. Collaborative proposals will not be accepted through this track.

What Fits

Through the SVRF, Additional Ventures aims to accelerate foundational research that will lead to improved care and new therapeutic opportunities grounded in a mechanistic understanding of single ventricle heart disease.

The 2027 SVRF welcomes research aligned with the focus areas and strategic topics described in the Additional Ventures’ 2026 Research Roadmap. We are particularly interested in proposals that seek to elucidate the mechanisms underlying, prevent, or reverse the interrelated organ- and multi-organ-level sequelae that contribute to long-term morbidity and mortality.

Proposals may address the following Roadmap domains:

*Projects within Domain I are eligible when they are primarily hypothesis-driven investigations of the biological, physiological, or engineering principles required to restore or support circulatory function. Applications focused primarily on device design, prototype development, product optimization, or precommercial testing are not within the scope of this award mechanism. These proposals may be eligible for funding through an alternative Additional Ventures funding mechanism.

This award exclusively supports foundational research projects that aim to improve our mechanistic understanding of single ventricle heart disease. Registry and biorepository build, and clinical trials will not be considered.

Through the SVRF program, Additional Ventures is committed to advancing foundational research that drives meaningful improvements in outcomes for people living with single ventricle heart disease. While we recognize that understanding disease origins can inform innovation, all supported work must clearly connect these insights to the complications and sequelae that shape long-term survival and quality of life.

Award Amount

Up to $600,000 in direct costs for the Independent Investigator Track awards. The Career Development Track awards are eligible for up to $300,000 in direct costs. Awards under both tracks span over three (3) years. Indirect costs up to 10% will be provided in addition to the total funded amount.
